How the image to puzzle generator works

When you upload a picture, the generator does three things. First it measures the image and finds grids whose cells are as close to square as possible, so no piece looks stretched. Then it draws a classic jigsaw outline for every edge: each inner edge gets a tab on one side and the matching blank on the other. Finally it slices the image along those outlines and shuffles the pieces into a tray.

Border pieces get a straight outer edge, just like a cardboard puzzle, so the usual strategy still works: frame first, then fill in.

Piece counts by image shape

Because pieces stay square, the exact grid depends on your picture. These are the options the converter offers for the most common shapes:

Which images convert well into a puzzle

  • Photos: family, travel, pets, weddings. The most common use, and the one that works best as a gift.
  • Artwork and illustrations: strong colours and outlines make satisfying puzzles.
  • Logos and brand images: a quick team or event game. Add some background so there are enough distinct pieces.
  • Screenshots and video frames: wide 16:9 images fit the wider grids well.
  • Maps and diagrams: good for classrooms, as long as the text is large enough to read on a piece.

Supported image format and size

The converter accepts JPG images between 1000 and 5000 pixels per side, up to 2 MB and 20 megapixels. That covers photos from any modern phone or camera. PNG, HEIC, WebP or GIF files need to be saved as JPG first.

Your image is private: it is used only to build and serve your puzzle, never to train AI and never shared with third parties.
