What you need before you start
Making a puzzle from a picture online takes three things: a photo, a browser and a minute of your time. There is nothing to install and you do not need an account to build and play the puzzle yourself.
Puzzlify works with JPG images between 1000 and 5000 pixels per side, up to 2 MB and 20 megapixels. Almost every phone photo meets that limit. If yours is a PNG, HEIC or screenshot, export it as JPG first (your phone gallery or any photo editor can do it).
Make a jigsaw puzzle from your photo in 4 steps
1. Upload your picture
Open the puzzle maker and drop your JPG. The image stays private and is only used to build your puzzle.
2. Choose how many pieces
Pick one of five difficulty levels, from about 24 to about 252 pieces. The maker fits the grid to your photo so every piece stays nearly square.
3. Play it yourself, free
Solve the whole puzzle in your browser exactly as the recipient would. Drag pieces from the tray to the board; correct pieces snap into place.
4. Share it only if you want to
If you want to send it, add a message that appears when the last piece fits and publish a private link with one credit (from €3.99). The person who opens it needs no account.
How to pick a photo that makes a good puzzle
Not every great photo is a great jigsaw. These rules of thumb come from watching which puzzles people actually finish:
- Look for several distinct colour areas. A red jacket, a blue sky and green grass give you natural sections to build.
- Avoid huge areas of one flat colour (a clear sky, a white wall) if you want an easy puzzle. Keep them if you want a hard one.
- Faces and text are great anchors: the brain spots them instantly, so they are the first pieces placed.
- Use the sharpest version of the photo you have. Blurry pieces are frustrating, not challenging.
- Crop distractions out before uploading. The subject should fill most of the frame.
How many pieces should your photo puzzle have?
Choose by who will play and on which screen. On a phone, 24 to 48 pieces is relaxed and 80 is a real challenge. On a tablet or computer, 130 pieces takes roughly 15 to 30 minutes and 252 pieces is an evening project.
For children or a quick birthday surprise, stay at the lowest level. For a puzzle fan or a couple’s anniversary, the higher levels make the final reveal feel earned.
Common mistakes when you turn a picture into a puzzle
- Uploading a tiny image from a chat app: it gets rejected or looks soft. Use the original from your camera roll.
- Picking the hardest level for someone playing on a phone. Pieces get small; go one level down.
- Forgetting to test it. Play your own puzzle first: it is free and it is the only way to know the difficulty is right.
